AppsAfrica Innovation Awards now open for Applications

Leading pan-African technology news portal and advisory service,, is inviting mobile and tech enterprises to apply to the third edition of its innovation awards, the AppsAfrica Innovation Awards 2017.

The awards, in association with Mobile Ecosystem Forum (MEF) and Mobile Monday (MOMO) South Africa, is aimed at promoting innovation in the tech ecosystem across the continent.

According to the organisers, the awards will expose winners to various opportunities which include international recognition, publicity across different media platforms and networking with over 300 industry leaders and investors.

Last year, received over 200 entries from 25 countries. Winners at the 2016 edition included Domestly (South Africa), Vula Mobile (South Africa), Sliide Airtime (Nigeria), Flutterwave (Nigeria), Battabox (Nigeria) , Mwabu (Zambia), BitPesa (Kenya), Ask Without Shame (Uganda), Mobi Hunter (South Africa), and Shule Direct (Tanzania).

In the 2017 edition, applications will be accepted in the 12 categories below, from mobile or technology ventures (startups or established corporate firms), which have launched their services in at least one African market:

  • Disruptive Innovation Award
  • Best Social & Messaging Award
  • Best African App Award
  • Enterprise Solution Award
  • News & Entertainment Award
  • Educational Award
  • Fintech Award
  • Social Impact Award
  • Brand Campaign Award
  • mCommerce Award
  • Changing Africa Award
  • Outstanding Industry Achievement Award

A team of judges consisting of experts who have been selected based on their expertise, influence and contribution to the improvement of technology and business in Africa will assess the applications. The awards party will hold in Cape Town on November 6th, 2017.
