Seedstars World to Hold Summit for African Entrepreneurs
Global seed-stage startup competition, Seedstars World, is holding its annual African Regional Summit in Maputo, Mozambique, from December 11 to 14, 2017.
Seedstars World has conducted pitches in 25 African countries this year as part of activities to identify and support the most promising startups in emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes. Local winners of the various pitches will be part of the summit and also at the global Seedstars Summit holding in Switzerland in April 2018.
The Africa Regional summit will be attended by relevant players in Africa’s technology and entrepreneurship space. The activities lined up for the summit are boot camp for the participating startups, an ecosystem tour, investor day and conference, pitch event , panel discussions among others.
The event will be locally hosted by UX Information Technologies with support from local and international partners such as Enel, Merck, Orange, Microsoft, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Embassy of Switzerland and Standard Bank.
“We have been on a long and interesting journey when it comes to entrepreneurship and technology in emerging markets,” said Claudia Makadristo, Seedstars’ Regional Manager for Africa. “As part of Seedstars DNA we want to be on the ground working directly with startups, corporates and other stakeholders.
“This is exactly the reason why we are travelling to 88+ ecosystems globally this year, including over 20 countries in Africa. We are very excited to be able to bring the entire network together in Mozambique later this year and together look into some of the opportunities of the continent and explore how technologies can rapidly improve the current status quo in emerging markets worldwide.”
Tiago Borges Coelho, co-founder at UX Information Technologies said the summit will offer a platform for African entrepreneurs to network and share experiences. “We are much honored to host the 3rd edition of Seedstars Regional Summit in Africa, following the steps of Morocco and Rwanda, and finally bringing the Summit to Maputo. The Seedstars network is very solution oriented and we believe the Regional Summit is the perfect environment to bring together the best startups on the continent to exchange experiences from our individual markets and brainstorm truly applicable solutions for problems facing emerging markets, both on the continent and globally,” he said.
